“My heart loves Vinyasa Flow but my body needs YIN.”
Amanda Woolridge began her yoga journey 25 years ago when she first arrived in Queenstown from the UK but it wasn’t love at first sight.
“I had a couple of teachers that were directive and strict and whilst I enjoyed the discipline of it, yoga didn’t capture my heart.”
Amanda taught the Les Mills Body Balance Programme for 7 years in QT until local gym Pulse Fitness closed down, which is where she attended one of Sandi Murphy’s classes and from that moment was hooked on yoga. Amanda attended Nianna Bray and Sandi Murphy’s inaugural 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training in 2015 and completed her YIN 100-hour Yoga Teacher Training with Tina Nance in 2016 at the renowned Yoga Barn in Ubud, Bali.
“Yoga started as a physical practise but has now become more of an intentional practise to quieten my busy thinking mind, to reconnect to my true self. When you come to one of my classes, you’ll find a key focus on breath and mindfulness. I like to encourage students to connect inwardly, to build proprioception (that sense of being in your body present to your body’s wisdom) and to connect to breath because that for me, is one of the best doorways to building awareness and creating greater choice in your life.”
Amanda is also a certified Life Coach and enjoys offering annual Yoga Retreats in Bali together with Sandi.
