Persistent problems are like black holes in the psyche, they steal our vitality and deplete our energy.
Our lives are constantly challenged by changes in our circumstances, experiences, and beliefs. Coping with change is often at the root of our concerns. As infants we form patterns of response to the world. We find ways of interacting that get us what we need, and we devise strategies to avoid pain and rejection. However, the coping mechanisms we invent in infancy don’t always serve our best interests in maturity.
My work is to help you look at your patterns of response to your environment. Mostly this is achieved by listening to your constructions about your life, the beliefs you hold, the language you use and the stories you tell. My job is to challenge and support you on your path to self-knowledge, and to provide you with the tools to create the changes you want to make. I work within a Gestalt framework. The principles underlying this form of therapy include an acknowledgement of your individuality, the importance of the context of your life, and the transformative power of interpersonal connection and dialogue.
The issues I work with include:
- Anxiety
- Depression
- Relationship difficulties
- Loss and grief
- Life transitions
- The complexities inherent in human existence
- Personal growth and development
