Another yama from Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras 📖 is Aparigraha. Aparigraha translates to non-possessiveness or non-grasping. It is about a greed-based desire to be what someone else is, to be where are they are at in life, or have what they have.
It can be easy to judge yourself based on others. 🤔 We may be impressed or jealous of someone else’s clothes, relationship, status, success, or happiness🤗. Aparigraha teaches us to celebrate the other person.🎉🙏🏼
Celebrating others’ successes is to acknowledge the oneness of the universe⚡️. We have to reach for the stars, rather than gazing at others’ stars✨.
Another way we may grasp onto things is by grasping onto thoughts. When dark or unpleasant thoughts come in☁️🌩, we must remind ourselves we are not our thoughts. Let thoughts move and flow through you like water down a river💧. No holding on- let them flow through.
Negative thoughts can also manifest resentment😒. The remedy for that is forgiveness. You can try writing a letter📝 to someone or something you feel resentment towards and then let it go! 🔥
